The portable OM-HL-EH-TC logger is an eight-channel handheld thermometer/data logger with a large LCD display, which can take all 8 types of thermocouple inputs. This user friendly data logger is powered by an internal battery and capable of sampling, processing and displaying measurements without being connected to a computer.
With the high resolution and fast analog to digital converter (ADC), the OM-HL-EH-TC logger meet majority of data logging requirements in most industrial applications, 86000 data points each channel, real-time data monitoring & recording, sampling time 1 sec with all 8 channels on, logging interval sets from 2 secs to 24 hrs comes standard.
By using the professional OM-HL Logpro software, this data logger can save the 8-channels temperature measuring data, along with the time information (year, month, date, minute, second) into the computer and can download to Excel, PDF, and JPG formats. The end user can easily make any data or graphic analysis if needed.

nice having 8 ch, logging behavior not so nicefairly straightforward device, does what it says it should but there are some gotchas that users really should be aware of and those details should absolutely be addressed in the manual. as the previous reviewer mentioned, you CANNOT use the log feature on the unit and the remote USB connection at the same time. doing this will terminate the logging. you CAN monitor temps using the remote feature and even capture data but if you try to access another downloaded log or click away from the monitoring under way before downloading any logging that has taken place, you will lose your data. strangely, while using the USB remote connection for logging, the software did an auto download at one minute before midnight...while this could be a good idea to preserve data, unfortunately, it also disrupted and terminated logging. there is no mention of any of these aspects in the manual.
the pros of this unit are low cost for 8 channels, simple and understandable display of information and decent battery life. we did six days of testing and there are still two bars on the batt indicator, although due to the remote connection stopping the logging, it's likely that battery life would be reduced had that not happened.
these units get a bad rap due to the above mentioned issues and I can understand why. we lost a week's worth of testing due the logging getting terminated unexpectedly because of the remote USB connection issue. while I don't expect high level performance of an entry level device, a little more attention to the way data is handled should have been a priority, especially when it comes to explaining device behavior in the manual.

Misleading advertisingBought the logger even that it had bad reviews. Should have listened to others. Not to mention all the other shortcomings in other reviews, let me add another. Bought it so I could log temps every second. What is advertised as Sampling Interval of 1 second is really the meters screen update time, and the logging interval is actually how fast you can record data (which is a minimum of 2 seconds). If that is not misleading I don't know what is.

DisappointingFirst, the manual is very poorly written, as is the software interface. Although written in English the authors clearly are not native speakers. Clearly there was no review prior to release
Secondly, the sampling interval has a minimum of 1 second, a little slow for those wishing to monitor rapid changes. Even worse the minimum logging time is 2 seconds so one loses half the data at the fastest rate.
Thirdly one can't use the computer interface with the logger while trying to log-the computer stops the logging function each time.
Rather disappointing coming from Omega, with whom I usually have good experience. This product appears to have been developed by outsourcing.

A Great ValueThough I haven't used it very much yet, I have tested it by logging a few hours of temperature data and importing that data into Excel. It works very well and as advertised. I didn't even need to read most of the instructions although I will eventually. It's function is fairly self explanatory. If it is to be used in the field, it would be good to have a laptop computer available so that you can reconfigure it in place.

Decent, not pro levelGood price point for an entry level monitor. LCD font size could be a little larger/thicker
The range is specified as -200 to 1800 ºC. This obviously isn't for all thermocouples. Can you tell me the range for each thermocouple type? It's not in the manual.
Asked by: Jack999
Each thermocouple type has a different usable range. There is a paper on this somewhere on the omega website stating the materials of construction and their typical usable ranges along with what color is positive. It has been a longtime since I had to refer to it. You can also find this information from a google search.

1. Does the data logger have an in-buid cold junction? The reading I get from the display, is this the actual temperature?
2. Does this power adaptor "OMHL-NA-PLUG" for the data logger to connect it to an electric supply rather than battery?
Thank you.
Asked by: hmnola
1. Yes, it does have cold junction temperature compensation. You will be getting the actual temperature, please make sure you have it setup for the correct thermocouple type.
2. You could use this power adapter to connect it to the the wall instead of using batteries.

How long does the battery last while logging?
Asked by: Cmuzzo
Hello, thank you for your question. Battery life depends on many factors like temperature, environment and sampling rate. For this unit estimated battery life is 4 months(60s sampling 300s Logging as Standard).

The Item# 5SC-GG-J-30-36 that goes with it, what is the difference between "single spool, mini male connector with spool cap" and " mini male connector with spool cap". They are sold in packs of five, right?, with each on having a male connector.
Thanks

Hello and thank you for this question.
There is actually no real difference between
The Item# 5SC-GG-J-30-36 that goes with "single spool, mini male connector with spool cap" and " mini male connector with spool cap". They are both a mini connector with a spool cap. As for your second question, yes, these are sold in packs of 5 with each thermocouple having their own connector.
