Embedded Internet
This OMEGA benchtop devices can serve Web pages over an Ethernet LAN or even over the Internet, making it possible to monitor and control a process through a Web browser (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer®) from anywhere in the facility or anywhere in the world.

Remote Control
For example, using an CS8DPt Series temperature controller to control a heater, an engineer can monitor the temperature, change setpoints or alarm points, turn the heater on and off, or make other modifications from anywhere on the local network or anywhere on the Internet. The Web pages are easily customized, and secure, password protected access to the devices is easily controlled. And it requires absolutely no special software on the engineer’s computer to view the data and “supervise” the controller— nothing other than a Web browser.

E-Mail and Alarm
In fact, the Cs8DPt controller can even send an e-mail to the engineer (or anyone he or she chooses) about an alarm condition or to update the status. Leveraging the technology of the Internet, the engineer could receive a message from the controller on an Internet-enabled pager or cell phone.

Most remarkable is that all this can be accomplished without a computer. The OMEGA™ CS8DPt controller with fully loaded communication options connects directly to the Ethernet network—not to the serial port of a computer functioning as a “server” and “master” to “slave” instruments connected through serial communications. With the loaded C24 option, these devices are also available with RS232 and RS485, and MODBUS serial communications.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product - Weak Documentation Overall, I'm happy with the instrument. However, the learning curve is steep and I think very difficult if you were to attempt to use this equipment without the Platinum Monitor software. It is here where the documentation is quite weak. If I did not use the software it is doubtful I would have ever been able to get have gotten this controller to work correctly. Even with the software it took me a couple hours to get the controller working well for the mechanical on/off relay output and another couple hours with the PID solid state relay output. The takeaway is the documentation leaves a lot to be desired. First, the manual that accompanies the controller barely mentions the Platinum Monitor software. In my opinion, it should be required and this is coming from someone who has used CN76000 temperature controllers with no client software for many years. The reason for this is the CN76000 documentation is excellent. One other gripe is the USB interface uses a USB-A to USB-A connector in order to connect it to a PC running the Platinum Monitor software. That is a very uncommon cable which I had to order. This cable should have shipped with the unit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can't get it to work The unit came 3 months late. The manual as someone pointed out is very confusing. When I complained about the manual I was given a CNPT manual as that is slightly more detailed. However, I cannot get this to work for past 3 months now. The response from the technical team takes about 2-3 days at the earliest and weeks if I do not contact again. They respond by giving clue for one small thing that we would have already tried. One can only leave voice message to technical team. The system powers, but when the program is run it keeps giving a message either OPEN or RANGE, none of these options are given in the manual as error or what to do in this case. There are projects and deliverables that are hurting and I cannot seem to get someone to call me and walk me through the unit. It seems they are relying on prior knowledge of the users who have experience with Omega controllers. I downloaded the software but it cannot recognize that the unit is connected. I was told to check whether the firewall is blocking the recognition but that is not the case. I am unsure how long will I have to wait to get this to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use, works well Purchased this unit and it's predecessor. They're really easy to use and work well to control the 4 Amp cartridge heaters we're using in the lab. We used the auto tune PID feature, which took about 5 minutes. The user interface is a bit confusing, until you read the manual.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unit came 3 months late and it will not power up I ordered this unit back in November and got it end of March. When it finally came, it did not power up. Upon taking with technical support they were not able to find the problem so the unit needs to be returned to be repaired or exchanged, maybe in another 3 months. I am VERY dissapointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Unit. Much Bigger Than Expected This controller is a definite improvement over its predecessors. We have several CSC32s, and CSi32s in our lab, and this controller is much better. The software is much better than expected, and I definitely prefer using this controller for synthesis. The only issue is the size. This unit is monstrous compared to its predecessors. We use our controllers in fume hoods to control heating mantles, and this unit has to live outside the hood because of space constraints. If they could make this unit in the same form factor as the old units, it would have 5 stars easy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly implemented power When turned on, this unit produces large amounts of radiated electronic noise (from the built in power supply on the internal controller) that interferes with nearby electronic equipment and devices on the same power circuit, it also causes unstable temperature readings. The USB and/or TC inputs do not appear to be properly isolated, as connecting these produce DC shifts in the temperature measurements. Replaced the controller with one with a (properly isolated) external 24v supply and the problem went away, but am left with an $800 controller I can't use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased for electrochemistry at temperature Excellent instrument, only issue I have is with the software, records time and temperature of the probe without an AM / PM indicator. Had to write a script to convert to military time.

I set the setpoint1 to be 100, P(0.02) I(0.001)D(0.1), Maximum rate(2000). However, when I clicked run, the temperature reached 100C slowly at the rate of ~0.15C/s and the T overshoot by > 20C. T then dropped, but to a value below setpoint(for ex: 95C).

Asked by: syh2
Hi Syh2, Thank you for the inquiry. The PID values are unusual. Please try the autotune process. For assistance on this or manual tuning please contact our temperature technical support by email or phone; TEMP@OMEGA.COM or 800-359-1660 and select tech support. Best regards OMEGA

A way to set max temperature threshold? Once heater is turned on it heats well beyond to the set temperature in SP1 (no change in SP2). Is there a way to set a maximum to prevent this?

Asked by: R and D engineer
Thank you for your inquiry. You must program the MODE from ON.OF to PID.

What does the error E006 mean?

Asked by: User01
This is for the Loop break error; Select the loop break (LPbk) parameter. When enabled, this parameter specifies the amount of time in Run Mode without a change in input value that would signify a sensor malfunction. For example, if there were a problem in a thermocouple, the input would not change over time. Best regards OMEGA

Ordered (8) with ENET to network over Modbus. Many issues. 1.) Quality - Had to open (3) of them & reconnect cables that have come loose. 2.) Found Config for Modbus can only be done over USB - Weblink only sets IP. 3.) COMM drops. Need help here.

Asked by: Jeff78
Thank you for your inquiry. The Configurator software was designed for automatic use via USB but will work via Ethernet if you do some setting changes. Please contact us directly so we may assist you in more detail
