The OMEGA™ FTB600B Series flow meters feature an infrared, electro-optical transmitter and receiver molded into the flow meter’s body, along with two miniature circuit boards to provide voltage stabilization and automatic IR output level control. The FTB600B automatically compensates IR light intensity for varying fluid opacity levels to insure a strong square wave output signal. The flowmeter is suitable for clear, transparent and translucent fluids which must transmit infrared light. (Note: Not suitable for use with red liquids).

The design of the FTB600B inherently bleeds off entrained gas, thereby improving overall accuracy. This flowmeter can be easily mounted into any position for greater system design flexibility, also saving time and installation costs. A strainer is included in models FTB602B through FT606B.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Omega FTB600B Faulty Labelling Added Cost I installed this unit according to the proper direction of flow indicated on the label. Along with the integration of the Omega DPF701 display, I spent many hours trying to get the assembly to indicate the proper flow rate. I finally realized that the direction-of-flow label may be affixed incorrectly. I checked the picture in the manual and, sure enough, the label was upside-down. I reversed the flow and the assembly functioned properly. For $600, I expect a better quality product that does not cost me valuable time to implement. Photo attached.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact, easy to install and set up This sensor is relatively small. After calling tech support for some assistance, it was easy to correctly connect it with the meter. The meter was simple and quick to configure, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good flowmeter for lower temperatures The flowmeters are easy to setup and use. You need a pulse counter card, alternative is a pulse to voltage converter, for example IFMA0035.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't operate at the upper temperature limit. I have burnt out 2 of these flowmeters in a non-corrosive, hot water application. These flow meters are accurate out of the box and have good turndown ratio but I am operating them just under their spec at 180F. The manufacturer claims 185F as the upper limit. I would expect a little wiggle room but I have gone through 2 devices already.

Does this meter send live results to a data source to be reviewed by the user?

Asked by: bobby22
Thank you for your inquiry about the flow meter. Yes, it will send an output when the application reaches the minimum threshold of flow rate as listed in the data sheet for each specific part number mentioned.

A search for the DPF70 you recommend on another QA comes with 0 results. So, is there a display available to make this an actual meter? As it is I consider it to be just a flow sensor. I only need flow rate and I need a display that will work on 12 VDC

Asked by: cristel
Thank you for your inquiry. The DPF70 is only a general series meter or display. If you are searching for a display to be powered up by 12 VDC, then, the DPF20-LV is a meter that will accept a pulse input and display flow rate.

FTP600 Series - Flow meter Program's User Guide - How to control/monitor the sensor remotely (over RS232 for example). I'm looking for command syntax. For example @U?Pxxxxxx<CR> is the command syntax to send setup data to the older model (DPF700) sensor.

Asked by: Morimoto
Thank you for your inquiry about the FTB600 series turbine flow meter. Unfortunately, there is no commands to send to this flow meter since it only outputs a frequency. You may contact our Data Acquisition Group at das@omega.com and a colleague can advise on our LAYER N Technology available.

Is there an LCD display available for indication?

Asked by: Leslie
Thank you for your inquiry. We have the DPF70 series meter that will either, display, flow rate, total, or both. The DPF70 series is compatible to accept the input signal from this flow meter.
